Seeking experienced, professional & self-motivated AQF5 Arborist

Job Title

Arboricultural Consultant (fixed term contract with potential for ongoing work) – Flexible hours & conditions for the right person.

Reports to

Company Director & Principal Arboricultural Consultant but the role will involve self directed work and time management.

Job Overview

Do what you do best as a consulting arborist – provide best practice advice about trees, particularly on development sites, but also for local Councils, homeowners and other property managers. New Leaf has a small support team taking care of most admin tasks and preparing tree plans in CAD. So you can maximise the time spent bringing value to clients and improving the urban forest. You will be the main technical expert while the Director takes time out of the business for 12 months.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Deliver clear, concise and technically correct Arboricultural reports using New Leaf standards and templates, and advice via email, phone and in person.
  • Have an attitude of service, while maintaining professional ethics with a firm understanding of your role in working for the best interests of trees and the wider community when providing advice about individual trees and properties.
  • Conduct yourself professionally at all times, maintaining the reputation of New Leaf as an industry leader.
  • Travelling to and from sites mostly within Greater Sydney, with possible occasional regional work.
  • Must be keen to use the technology tools that have been developed at New Leaf to provide efficient, consistent and well presented reports and advice – including training materials, communication and data collection methods, report preparation, project management and time tracking applications.
  • After 1 month you should be familiar with the processes and systems and picking them up. After 3 months you should be working mostly independently and demonstrating a high level of competence and good judgement.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Diploma of Horticulture (Arboriculture) or Diploma of Arboriculture.
  • 5+ years experience working as a consulting arborist or Council tree officer.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills, problem solving approach, and good judgement.
  • Passionate about providing best practice Arboricultural consulting, and continual learning and professional development.
  • Willingness to learn and use New Leaf proprietary systems and ways of working.
  • Own phone, car, license, and computer with fast internet.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Physically able to attend sites with varied access, including construction sites (sometimes for extended periods) during business hours.
  • WHS Construction White Card.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Document formatting, spreadsheet formulas, using cloud applications, email etiquette, ability to carry out research from reliable sources highly regarded.
  • Should be eligible for Accredited membership of IACA (or working towards becoming eligible).
  • Experience as a Project Arborist and understanding of the practical and ethical complexities of on site work highly regarded.
